Born Bowyett, Torphichen 1918. Son of Daniel Gillon, a coalminer and his wife Jane Ann Gibson. Brother of James. Like his brother James, joined up in 1938. HMS Gloucester was sunk by dive bombers when trying to prevent German seaborne landings on Crete. It took four years for his family to receive official notification of his death.
