Pte. Thomas Mair Jamieson

Cameron Highlanders, 5th Bn.
Died 25 Apr 1918 aged 18

Tyne Cot Memorial

Son of John Jamieson, a miner of Braehead Cottage, Westfield and his wife Elizabeth Anthony who may have been born at Crawhill. Thomas is said to have been born at Tarbrax and he was certainly living there in 1901 where his father was a shale miner but there is no matching birth record. The Mair may have been added later or is recorded in error. Thomas is recorded as a resident of Linlithgow. He had been a miner at Redford Colliery before the war. His death was not confirmed to his family until August 1919.

The newspaper obituary, (West Lothian Courier), states:

Mr. J. Jamieson, Braehead, Westfield, has received intimation from the War Office that his son, Pte. Thos. M. Jamieson, Cameron Highlanders, is reported wounded and missing on 25th April last. Pte. Jamieson joined the colours about seven months ago, and was trained in Ireland. He had only been in France about a month, when he was reported missing. Prior to enlisting, he was employed as a miner in Redford Colliery. He was only 19 years of age.
