Campbell King was born at Bathville House, Armadale in 1886. The son of Robert King, a brick manufacturer and Sarah King (maiden surname Campbell), Craigpark, Torphichen. A nephew of James Wood of Wallhouse. Had been a Scout leader and Territorial. Killed by poisonous gas after only two days in the line.
The newspaper obituary, (West Lothian Courier), states:
Last night, Mr. King, Craig Park, Torphichen, was officially notified that his son, Lieut. Campbell King, 18th Hussars, had been killed at the front.
He was killed on 24th inst from the effects of poisonous gas, and had been only two days in the fighting line.
The information was confirmed by the Chaplain of the Regiment, in a private letter to Mr. King.
Lt. King is a nephew of Mr. Wood of Wallhouse.
In Torphichen, Armadale and Bathgate his kindly disposition secured for him a large circle of friends who will deeply sympathise with the relatives of the deceased.
