Born Nethermuir Cottage, by Bathgate 1893. Son of William Liddell then a brick maker and Margaret Marshall Lyon, his wife. The family later lived at Mill Cottages, Westfield. Brother of Matthew and William. Resident of Kelty. Died on the second day of the Battle of Loos, said to be the most lethal battle ever for Scots.
