Born Blackburn 1897, the son of James McBride, a shale miner and Susan Foy, his wife. Mrs. McBride (widowed by the time the memorial was erected) lived at 48, Russells Row, Bathgate, and earlier at Glebe Terrace and The Loan, Torphichen. Myles worked at Wolfe’s Bathgate rolling mill. Wounded and taken prisoner, died at Crossen in Germany.

The newspaper obituary, (West Lothian Courier), states:

Mrs. McBride, The Loan, Torphichen, has this week received official intimation that her son, Pte. Myles McBride, R.S., died at Crossen, Germany, 25th August 1918, while a prisoner of war. Pte. McBride joined up on 1st July 1917. Prior to entering the army he was employed with Messers. G. Wolfe and Sons, at the Bathgate Rolling Mill.
