Killed at Loos. A miner at Easton Colliery and previously at East Benhar, he enlisted in October 1914 and went to France the following April. His wife, Sarah Daly from East Benhar and his children were living in Torphichen at the time of his death.
The newspaper obituary, (West Lothian Courier), states:
Above is a photograph of Pte. John McKay, 10th Batallion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, whose death we reported last week. Pte. McKay leaves a wife and two of a family, who are presently residing in Torphichen.
