Born 1895 in Torphichen and a resident of the village. As a child, lived in The Loan. Son of Alexander Wallace, a coalminer originally from West Calder and Mrs. Agnes (in some records, Marion) Wallace (maiden surname Maxwell). At one time, they lived at Bowyett, Torphichen though at the time of their son’s death they were at Burnside Cottage, Avonbridge. Had been a miner at Hill Farm Colliery, Avonbridge. The newspaper obituary, (West Lothian Courier), reads as follows:
Official intimation has been received by Mr. & Mrs. Alex Wallace, Burnside Cottage, Avonbridge, that their son, Pte. George Wallace, K.O.S.B., has been posted wounded and missing since 18th August 1916. Previous to enlisting, Pte. Wallace was engaged as a miner in Hill Farm Colliery, Avonbridge. He is 21 years of age.
